Healthy Snacks For Your Dog

Man’s best friend, even more so a family’s best friend. That’s right, we are going to talk about dogs in this post and more to the point we are going to discuss healthy snacking options for our dogs. As pet parents we cherish our dogs as much as any other member of the family. We often give them treats on a regular basis, whether as a reward for good behavior, from training or just because we can. But as with regular treat (especially if those treats are high fat, high calorie treats not meant for our beloved pets) giving it is all too easy for our dogs to become obese and start to develop health problems subsequently. We should not allow our dogs to become overweight it is imperative we keep them in good shape through preventative measures so that our dogs never have to experience the plight of animal obesity.

If you are going to treat your beloved dogs on a regular basis then the first thing you should consider is moderation and portion control. Remember what is appropriate for a German Shepard will not be the appropriate amount for a Chihuahua, so use your judgment when deciding on portions for your pet.

If a dog is allowed to become overweight he or she can suffer a lot of problems that will eventually impinge on its daily life. Some of the health problems dogs are susceptible to when they are overweight include difficulty breathing, heat intolerance, diabetes, and damage to joints, bones and ligaments. As pet parents we wouldn’t wish any of these on our pets so let’s have a look at some healthy options that we can treat our dogs to.

Fruit – Dogs are omnivores and will eat pretty much anything they can get their paws on. Fruit is a favorite of many dogs, especially the sweeter fruits such as mangoes, apples and pears. Prepare the fruit beforehand by removing seeds, stones and stalks.

DogSlim – This is a great choice for dogs that are obese. It lets you still be the good person and give them a great tasting treat for good behavior but at the same times these are designed to help your dog lose weight. They are available in a great range of flavors to entice any dog.

Physical Play: Take your dog out for some quality time. As with cats, treats don’t just have to be of the food variety.

Rawhides: A great treat that has many health benefits. Your pet will have a treat while you are looking after their dental health. Rawhides help clean your dog’s teeth. It also gives them something to chew on rather than your good shoes or furniture.

The above are just a few of the good, healthy options for you to treat your dogs. Just remember the amount of food you give to your dog depends on its size and breed so please judge accordingly to prevent your pet becoming overweight.
