Energy, Not Just For Your Appliances!

Even though we are now quickly moving into the autumn, many parts of the country are still struggling under record breaking heat. This heat has much the same affect on pets as on their human companions, sapping the energy out of them and making their movements sluggish and tired. Of course, there are many things that we can do to ensure that our pets make it through the summer and early autumn days with their energy intact. We certainly want our furry friends to come bounding to the door to meet us when we come home, and that will of course take energy!

So what can you do to help your pet enjoy their days outside and get the exercise that they need while still ensuring that they have energy left to frolic with you at the end of the day? We at PetAg have some tips for you to make sure that you are rolling around with your pet at the end of the day rather than joining each other in exhaustion on the couch.

  • Make sure that your pet plays and exercises outside during the cooler parts of the day. In most areas this will be between 6 and 10 AM and 7 and 9 PM.
  • Playing with a favorite toy to make sure that they are moving around quite a bit during their time outside will also replenish their energy. Contrary to popular belief, people and pets who sit around all day do not have a lot of energy. In fact, it appears that people and pets that are less active have even less energy than their counterparts who are in constant or regular movement.
  • If you find that your pet needs just a little help in the energy department, you might consider tweaking their diet slightly, to insure that they are getting all of the vitamins and nutrients that they need.
  • Treats can also help with energy levels. PetAg Vive bites will help keep your pets’ energy up and going. These are even more effective for sporting, agility, and work dogs. (Iditarod anyone?)

Of course, not all of our pets will be champion show cats, or Iditarod runners. Making sure that your pets have sufficient energy for exercise and play, as well as for all the mundane tasks of say, licking your face when you rush in the door to see them at the end of a hard day of work, will also ensure that your pet leads a long, healthy, happy and fit life!
